with 3 - 4 of our education animal ambassadors.

Zookeeper For A Day

 
For: Limited to 1 student per day and open to ages 15 to 18 years old who are interested in zoo jobs.  
Cost: $15 per person (Includes admission)  
Length: 8 am to noon  
Program: Learn and do everything a zookeeper would do. Work with the barn animals, make diets, tour behind the scenes, learn how to look at x-rays and more!  Applicants must submit an application to request the visit.

Internship

For: College students interested in pursuing an animal career
Cost: N/A
Length: One semester (spring/summer or fall/winter)
Program: Students gain necessary experience working with animals and experiencing an in-depth enrichment and observation project. Intern positions are unpaid.
   
   Zoo Tot Program
For: Ages: 3 and 5 year olds with one caregiver
Length: 10:30 am – 11:30 am
Program:

This program is designed for toddlers and their adults to discover the natural world together. We will use the basics of the alphabet to explore different animals in our zoo. In each class you will discover a different type of animals: mammals, birds, reptiles, insects. Your classroom experience will include stories, projects and special animal visitors.  All children must be accompanied by an adult who is willing to take part in the activities.

Each session features classes with a slightly different theme, so you can attend one or all five!

  • Session one - April 24th     A-E  

  • Session two - May 1st        F- J        

  • Session three - May 8th    K-O

  • Session four - May 15th     P-T        

  • Session five - May 22nd    U- Z

Registration: $15 per child per class include free admission for one caregiver. Advanced registration and payment are required.

Summer Zoo Camp is fun filled camp sessions geared toward specific age groups. At camp kids participate in zoo tours, hands-on activities, games, and crafts and interact with animals.  Zoo Camp offers your child a unique opportunity to experience all the Washington Park Zoo has to offer!

ZOOLOGY 101

 

Get a glimpse into the most popular major of study for zoo professionals. The animal kingdom is a big and fascinating world to discover and the zoo is the perfect place to investigate it. Keeper interactions, exhibit design and animal behavior studies are all a part of this exciting camp.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS LIVE

Meet a different animal friend each day and discover “where the wild things live.” Explore the tropical habitat of a snake, underwater world of a fish and where a skunk may roam to find home sweet home.

  • Zoo Topia – July 31st from 9 am to 2 pm

    Animals abound as we discover mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and amphibians. What makes each of them unique? How do they fit into the animal kingdom? This is the class with “class certification.” Why do some animals hand out with their friends? Being social has advantages. Discover the role of social behavior in finding food, staying safe and raising a family. Build a wild habitat to take home.

  •  Frolic with Forest Friends – August 1st from 9 am to 2 pm

    Spend a day looking at our native forest animals through a new light. Discover the crazy, the wild, the unusual and the whacky. This camp will show you how to eat like a bird, buzz like a bee, swing like a monkey, and sing like a whale. What’s more fun than becoming an animal at the zoo?

  • Predator and Prey – August 2nd from 9 am to 2 pm

    Rediscover the zoo while visiting our large predators and their smaller prey. Spend a fun filled day investigating wild dogs, cats, raptors, and more to see how they are designed to be the perfect predators. Meet some of the prey animals engineered for defense and decide how they measure up to their predator’s adaptations for survival.

  • Shells, Scales and Slime – August 3rd from 9 am to 2 pm

    You know the ones, they might be prickly, stinky, slimy, or have a face only a mother could love. Let’s change the “eww!” to “wow!” and go beyond the surface to find out why these animals deserve our love too. Scaly and surprising, snakes, turtles, and lizards are fascinating creatures with some wild adaptations. Non-poisonous snakes eat poisonous snakes and a turtle’s favorite food may surprise you. Learn more about these amazing creatures as we creep into the exciting world of reptiles, amphibians  and other cold-blooded creatures.
