Take a walk on the wild side with one of our special tours by an experienced guide who will show your group around the zoo. Groups will enjoy hearing 'behind the scene' stories, animal facts and trivia,as well as explore the artifacts from our tour bag.  

Please note that only the VIP tour include the meet and greet with some of the animal ambassadors.

Tours must be scheduled at least 3 weeks in advance and reservations are restricted by staff availability.

If you want a quick introduction to the zoo, this is for you! Enjoy an educational hands-on experience with 3 - 4 of our education animal ambassadors. We can't guarantee the species availability, but we will try and accomadate your lesson topics.

Internship

For: College students interested in pursuing an animal career
Cost: N/A
Length: One semester (spring/summer or fall/winter)
Program: Students gain necessary experience working with animals and experiencing an in-depth enrichment and observation project. Intern positions are unpaid.
   
   Zoo Tot Program
For: Ages: 3 thru 5 year olds with one caregiver
Length: 10:30 am – 11:30 am
Program:

This program is designed for toddlers and their adults to discover the natural world together. We will use the basics of the alphabet to explore different animals in our zoo. In each class you will discover a different type of animals: mammals, birds, reptiles, insects. Your classroom experience will include stories, craft projects and special animal visitors.  All children must be accompanied by an adult who is willing to take part in the activities.

Each session features classes with a slightly different theme, so you can attend one or all five sessions.

Registration: $15 per child per class include free admission for one caregiver. Advanced registration and payment are required.

Zoo Camp

Summer Zoo Camp is fun filled camp sessions geared toward specific age groups. At camp kids participate in zoo tours, hands-on activities, games, and crafts and interact with animals.  Zoo Camp offers your child a unique opportunity to experience all the Washington Park Zoo has to offer!

Critter Keepers

Get a glimpse into the most popular major of study for zoo professionals. The animal kingdom is a big and fascinating world to discover and the zoo is the perfect place to investigate it. Keeper interactions, exhibit design, and animal behavior studies are all a part of this exciting camp.

Harry Potter 101

Join us for wizard training as we explore herbology by brewing potions, discover the plants around us with magical powers and get an up close look at the magical creatures of the wizarding world. This camp is sure to be a magical experience!

Ready to avenge and protect our animal friends? Become a guardian of the globe and learn how to be a superhero of our planet. Discover some of the zoo’s ambassador animals and how you can help their counterparts in the wild!

  •  Zoo-tastic Beasts and How to Teach Them – July 31st from 9 am to 2 pm 

Animal training 101 - There is much more to animal training than sit and stay. Learn the fundamentals of animal behavior and training, then use that knowledge throughout the week as you work to build a project for the animals.

  • Zoomanji: Animal Detective – August 1st from 9 am to 2 pm 

Animals sure do some strange things! Some look a little strange, some act a bit peculiar, and others are all around loony. We will be taking a closer look at mysterious, grotesque, oddball, awe-inspiring, far-out, wacky, and totally weird wildlife!

  • Shells, Scales and Slime – August 2nd from 9 am to 2 pm 

You know the ones. They might be prickly, stinky, slimy, or have a face only a mother could love. Let’s change the “eww!” to “wow!” and go beyond the surface to find out why these animals deserve our love too. Scaly and surprising snakes, turtles, and lizards are fascinating creatures with some wild adaptations. Non-poisonous snakes eat poisonous snakes and a turtle’s favorite food may surprise you. Learn more about these amazing creatures as we creep into the exciting world of reptiles, amphibians and other cold-blooded creatures.
